Why Blogging?

So, I feel like the first thing to talk about is why I added a blogging section to my website. In part, it's because I've largely transitioned out of working in media, so I'm not sure I need to keep this website as a way to show off my work. Another reason is lately I've been busy with working a lot and haven't had the time to do some of the other things I want. Blogging seems like a relatively easy thing to do, while still letting me express my thoughts. I'm hoping one day to make more podcasts of my thoughts, or explaining tech things, but at the moment I just simply don't have the time to record and edit a podcast. I'm also not entirely sure how great a podcast with just one host would be, as I haven't really found anyone to co-host with me. The final reason that sort of pushed me over the edge, is with Elon Musk taking over Twitter, there's been a movement to get off of Twitter. I've personally been looking at the content creators I care about, trying to see if they have their own websites and RSS feeds so that I could subscribe to them, in case Twitter ever really goes down. At the time of writing this, there hasn't really been a clear Twitter replacement. Mastodon is certainly the most popular, however for the people I follow most have not switched there. Honestly, most seem to be staying on Twitter, but that's a complaint for a different post. Also, if you're not familiar with RSS feeds, that's going to probably be my first tech post, and I'll link it here once it's ready. Most creators I've gone to follow do not seem to have their own websites or, at the least, RSS feeds and so figured I should try to be the change I want to see in the world and try to implement one of my own.

What can I expect?

Whelp, I'm not entirely sure myself. I'm hoping to stick with this, and hopefully build out a bunch of posts for people to read through and hopefully enjoy. As I'm rolling this out, I currently have roughly 5 categories and two subcategories for posting that I think will encapsulate most of what I want to talk about. They are as follows:

Life

This category is the one that I think I'm probably going to use the least. The idea behind it is to post things about my life. However, there's not too much I'm looking to share with the internet as a whole, so this one might end up being removed later.

Dungeons and Dragons

This one is also fairly obvious in what it is. Right now, Dungeons and Dragons is one of my biggest hobbies, and so I'll probably want to talk about it. This might end up evolving into a Table Top Role Playing Game (TTRPG) category, but right now I really don't have time for anything more than DnD.

Misc. Blogs

This is actually the category I've put this blog in. It's for blogs that mostly don't fit the other categories. My goal is as time goes on, I'll figure out new/ different categories that will best help keep things separate, so that people can look at only the content they're interested in. This segmentation also helps when using RSS feeds. But, there'll always be something that doesn't fit somewhere else, so this is the category for those things.

Tech

Tech has two sub categories right now: Rant and Instructional. My goal with Rant is there are times where I have opinions on something happening in the tech world, and I want to get them out somewhere. Now, it's one of those things where I'm just another white guy putting his opinion up online, so I don't think many people will be that interested. But, even screaming into the void is nice sometimes.

My goal with Instructional is to go over some basic stuff in technology. Make step by step guides, or easy to understand instructions for learning something yourself, or sharing with some of the less tech literate people in your life. This category is the one most likely to get turned into a podcast at some point. I also have some videos filmed on the topic for when I worked for a content creation company, which I think will help round out the blog posts.

Video Games

Video games are the next big hobby I have, and so I figured I'd want to talk about them at some point. I'm not really sure if this category will just be a "hey, this is what I'm playing right now, here are my thoughts" or what. It's a little hard too because my Video Game habits have died down significantly between loss of a gaming PC and just business, but I figured it'd be good to have the category to start with.
