I've had the Steam Deck I believe since it was released. I also bought the dock as soon as I was able to, as I wanted the official device to connect the Steam Deck to my TV. Unfortunately, it hasn't really worked since I've gotten it.
I plugged everything in, and, nothing. I thought maybe my HDMI cable was bad, so replaced that. Nope, still no output to the TV. After messing with it a bit, I was able to get it working for a while but then it would just... stop... outputting. The really annoying part is if I just plug in a generic USB Hub I bought off of Amazon, it works perfectly. I have no clue why it acts this way. I've tried updating the firmware of the dock when I do get it working, and again it'll work for a little while and then just... not. I thought maybe it was something with my TV, but again, it's odd to me that the generic USB Hub would work immediately without issue if it was the TV. It sucks because I really wanted to like the thing, but I just can't get it to consistently output to my TV.
It also seems like I'm not the only one with issues - this Reddit post from a few years ago has someone with the same exact issue. I followed the suggested fix the top comment has:
For everyone having this issue, try plugging in the deck to dock with only the HDMI plugged in and no power cable. This worked for my TCL TV. Once the screen screen shows on the TV, you can plug the power cable back in and it should still work
And, again, this gets it to work for a little bit, but then I'll turn it on one day and no output. Try the fix and nothing. It's just really odd this happens and I'm not really sure as to why. It really sucks too because I genuinely like Valve as a company, and think they make great stuff. But this just really missed the mark for me.
